Whole Foods made this happen by integrating itself into the community whole-heartedly, from providing locals classes on job applying, food business management and how to grocery shop healthily on a budget, to using Detroit scrap yard recycled materials for store signs and proudly displaying local artists' Detroit-themed art. Red Truck supports the local economy by supplying products from Detroit-based growers and businesses. When Whole Foods announced their decision to build a store in Midtown Detroit almost six years ago, the announcement was greeted with considerable skepticism. Many commented that the store would never get built. Others said that if it were built it would close within the first year.
