Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA)

Backstory

The Detroit Institute of Arts facility underwent an extensive renovation and expansion by renowned architect Michael Graves. For the 3,052 square foot shop space, JGA was engaged to create the interior design to complement the newly designed surrounding building, with a shop specific identity to entice museum visitors into the shop. With a simple and timeless contemporary design, the new DIA Shop creates a draw to guests as they enter or exit the Museum. In this space without natural light, a major focus was put on how to add and integrate illumination to create a sense of openness and to effectively light the merchandise. This created a radiant and inviting environment with backlighting and indirect lighting effects making the store more appealing.
